Tim Bayer, Webmaster, and Assistant Editor of Weekly Hubris, was born and brought up in Webster, New York. He attended St. Bonaventure University, earning a BS in Computer Science, and then worked in the hi-tech world. In 2002 he turned his creative energies to product development and video production with the release of his first independently produced products. When the demand for web site design (TBayer.com) and freelance writing increased, he once again switched skill sets . . . to writing and web work. An avid or, to be more accurate, rabid, disc golfer, he may often be found chasing plastic while in pursuit of the perfect round on a disc golf course, or designing and developing disc golf products for Demogrid.com. He says he “tries to find the humor hidden in everyday experiences, because life is too important to be taken seriously.” (Author photo by Tim Bayer)

Dances With Wind

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—2/1/2016—In the video here, the apparatus in use looks like it might be some sort of zero-gravity tube. Actually, it’s a vertical wind tunnel that can be used for indoor skydiving. At the Wind Games (yes there is a competition called the Wind Games) this […]

A New Planet! Really?

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—1/25/2016—Maybe you’ve heard: there’s a new planet in our solar system. But wait: a new planet in our solar system hasn’t really been been discovered, yet. What has happened is that a new planet has been . . . predicted. More precisely, observations of the orbits […]

James Veitch’s Solid Gold Giant Gummy Lizard

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—1/18/2016—The email exchange between James Veitch and Solomon-the-Scammer is exceedingly funny. While relating his tale, via a TedTalk, Veitch presents a novel perspective on handling would-be con-men. If all of us took a couple of minutes to engage scammers—using our bespoke junk email addresses, of […]

Riding The Roof

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—1/4/2016—The video I’m sharing with you this week had me riveted to my computer screen. I was impressed by both the skill of the cyclist and the danger of his stunts. First-person video footage filmed from a helmet camera enables viewers to ride along—in the […]

Robotic Tesla

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—12/21/2015—I have more than a bit of “car guy” in me. Though I presently drive what may be described as “a vehicle suitable for everyday transportation,” I harbor visions of (one day) parking a sports car in my garage. If Santa has room in that […]

Giggle Bubbles

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—12/7/2015—The only language I understand is English. However, no English is spoken in the video I have for you this week. This does not detract from the entertainment value of the footage, though. I would argue that, for me, the non-English speech actually enhanced the […]

Debatable Lip Reading

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—11/30/2015—If you missed the Democratic and Republican party debates, fret not, for I have found video summaries for you! The footage I’ve come up with may not comprise word-for-word synopses of the two events, but I would argue that the, ah, “translations” I’ve located are […]

Penguin Pride

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—8/3/2015—It’s sometimes entertaining to speculate about what others might be thinking, and give those thoughts voice. In the video I’ve found for you this week, those “others” are . . . penguins. Via my previous post, Remotely Amusing, we heard the voices of adults arise […]

Remotely Amusing

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—7/27/2015—Kids and the elderly use language very differently. Well, in fact, we speak entirely different languages, and we interact in entirely different ways. (My Gosh, do we ever!) I found it interesting, entertaining, and a tad terrifying to hear the conversation of an elderly couple […]

Animated Paper

Won Over By Reality By Tim Bayer BRIGHTON New York—(Weekly Hubris)—6/29/2015—The pinnacle of my origami expertise is the paper airplane, but I have a great appreciation for the skill of the masters of this art form. Previously, I’d only seen three-dimensional origami figures made using flat, smooth paper . . . until Elizabeth Boleman-Herring shared […]
